60A Lang St, Padstow NSW

60A Lang St, Padstow NSW is part of a duplex complex located in the South-Western Suburbs of Sydney. Domus supplied both the internal and external lighting for this project.

When it comes to residential projects, nothing creates a first impression quite like a facade. We aimed to employ lighting that highlighted all the features that make this facade unique without being distracting.

The LYNX was selected to help provide illumination to the front garden walls as well as creating soft ambience in the entryway, and was selected due to it’s rounded edges, mirroring the design of the facade. The entryway to the front door and garage also features our exterior LED strip lighting. This trim of LED strip light is a prime example of how a space can creatively use a piece of strip light to add character to a front facade while also being functional. To achieve this illumination, PLEX and PLEO LED strip lights are the way to go.

The backyard and patio are staples for every household to entertain and as such require as much attention as the interior of a house. It is a balancing act to make sure the spaces are illuminated enough to create a warm and inviting environment, and function well as an outdoor space during the hot Sydney summers. To help with the heat, one of the Domus HOVER-56 fans have been installed in the patio to provide some ventilation and cooling for the main outdoor entertaining area.

Both HALO and LYNX decorative wall fixtures have been used to help provide gentle lighting to the yard and swimming pool spaces. Used in an alternating pattern, the HALO and LYNX bring out the backyard’s characteristics and also highlights the decorative architectural elements where the curved HALO echoes the curved arches.

The entrance is a way to welcome you into a home and provides a welcoming embrace. This particular entrance has utilised multiple lighting fixtures and applications to help create a soothing start to the home.

As you enter the home, you are immediately met with a staircase to your right. Instead of standard step lights being used here, LED strip lights have been applied under each step, continuing with the LED applications that were seen in the front exterior facade. When you continue down the entry hallway, the ceiling features a recessed oval which is lit up by even more LED strip and also houses the NEO-PRO-SM surface mounted downlights, providing an accent piece to the hallway. Both the PLEX and PLEO LED strip lights are suitable selections for these sorts of applications.

As you continue through the entryway, a study nook is located under the stairway which would require more tailored lighting than ceiling lights alone. In this particular space, a BF 7310 bowl ceramic wall light has been installed to help provide light in a tight, challenging space and has been painted to match the wall colour.

Everyone knows the kitchen is the heart of the home and in an open plan living space, that then expands to the living and dining areas. These zones in a home are the main entertaining areas and require the most attention to detail.

Similar to the entry hallway, the living room features a rounded-edge square ceiling recess which houses more NEO-PRO-SM surface mounted downlights. Continuing on with the use of LED strips in this build, the mini stairway utilises the strips as step lights in the same fashion as the main stairway in the entryway. We then come along to the mini bar in the dining zone where the strips are used for under-shelf lighting and is even more accentuated by the mirror wall placed behind it.

Flowing into the kitchen and butler’s pantry, LED strips are, yet again, used to provide soft accent lighting to specific areas. The stove splashback is accented with a piece of LED strip, along with the splashback in the butler’s pantry. Both applications are a different way to provide soft lighting in spaces such as these without taking space from the wall and being hidden from the eye.

Bedrooms are a sanctuary in a home and require care to make sure they are warm, inviting, and comforting.

The GLOW-8 wall light is a great option for bedroom lighting where bedside lamps are not wanted as they provide soft lighting to either side of the bed. Other wall lights such as the BF 2350 circular and BF7310 bowl ceramic lights have been utilised in tight spaces within the bathrooms as well, not only saving on space but also providing even more soft lighting.

The use of strip lighting has continued in the bathrooms. LED strip has not only been used under the bathroom vanities, but it has also been used to line the shower cavity shelving. This allows for alternate lighting options to be used in different ways where you no longer need to rely on ceiling lights alone. Along with this, the use of LED strip has also been utilised in the main bedroom walk-in robe. Being placed as shelf lighting as well as cupboard wall lighting allows you to highlight and show off your belongings while also providing needed light.

This project is a demonstration on what different types of lighting fixtures can do together to help create a warm and inviting environment. Domus supplied all fittings inside and out, turning a building into a home.
