Two neighbouring businesses in Earlwood demonstrate two distinctly different approaches to commercial lighting. Within the barber shop the MAXI surface-mounted linear profiles create continuous lines across the dark ceiling, while OL Mates Sandwich Shop uses THOR-PRO track lighting throughout its bright hospitality interior.

Outside, NEO-PRO surface-mounted downlights continue along the shared concrete awning, creating a consistent lighting treatment across the development. Together, the installations show how different lighting solutions can respond to the architecture and function of individual commercial spaces.

Linear Lighting in the Barber Shop

Inside the barber shop, MAXI surface-mounted linear profile lights extend across the dark ceiling in a series of clean, continuous lines. Their arrangement becomes a prominent part of the interior, contrasting against the black ceiling while complementing the grey finishes, dark timber and black detailing throughout the space.

Rather than treating the lighting as a separate element, the linear profiles work with the geometry of the interior. The repeated lines carry across the ceiling and are reflected throughout the large mirrors, giving the installation an even greater visual presence.

Smaller surface-mounted fittings provide an additional layer of illumination around the perimeter. The combination allows the MAXI profiles to remain the dominant architectural feature while other fittings are incorporated more discreetly throughout the space.

Track Lighting at OL Mates

Next door at OL Mates, THOR-PRO track lighting provides a distinctly different approach.

Black track runs across the light ceiling, with individual fittings positioned along the system to direct illumination towards different areas of the sandwich shop. The contrast between the black fittings and white ceiling also makes the track system a visible part of the interior design.

Throughout the space, the track lighting works alongside the long terrazzo counter, coffee equipment, menu wall and customer areas. Where the neighbouring barber shop uses continuous linear forms across the ceiling, OL Mates uses individual track fittings to create more focused points of illumination.

The contrast between the two interiors highlights how different commercial lighting solutions can respond to the architecture and purpose of each space rather than applying the same lighting approach throughout an entire development.

Surface-Mounted Lighting Across the Exterior

The connection between the two businesses continues outside, where NEO-PRO surface-mounted downlights are positioned along the exposed concrete awning.

Repeated along the exterior, the fittings illuminate the pedestrian areas outside the tenancies while maintaining a consistent appearance across the building. Their compact form also sits comfortably against the raw concrete surface without distracting from the surrounding brickwork and architecture.

After dark, the exterior downlights work alongside the illuminated interiors visible through the extensive glazing, connecting the individual businesses with the wider building exterior.

Different Approaches to Commercial Lighting

Across the Earlwood project, three distinct lighting applications respond to three different parts of the development.

MAXI linear profiles form a prominent architectural feature within the barber shop, THOR-PRO track lighting provides a more directional approach at OL Mates, and surface-mounted downlights create a consistent lighting treatment across the shared exterior.

Together, the two businesses demonstrate how commercial lighting can be integrated differently according to the architecture and requirements of each space, while still contributing to a cohesive lighting approach across the wider development.
